Pipers Lagoon Park

3600 Place Rd, Nanaimo, BC V9T 0M8, Canada

A peaceful seaside escape with tidal beauty and ocean breezes.

Pipers Lagoon Park is one of Nanaimo’s most tranquil and picturesque coastal parks. Located along Hammond Bay Road, just a short drive from downtown, this waterfront park offers a blend of scenic beauty, calm walking trails, and ever-changing tidal landscapes. It’s a favourite spot for nature lovers, birdwatchers, photographers, and anyone looking for a quiet retreat by the sea.

The park sits on a narrow peninsula surrounded by the waters of the Strait of Georgia, creating both a sheltered lagoon and open shoreline. During low tide, visitors can walk along the rocky beach and even explore nearby Shack Island — a small islet with a few historic summer cabins. When the tide comes in, the lagoon fills up, attracting seabirds and creating a peaceful marine setting.

Pipers Lagoon features a network of easy walking trails that circle the peninsula, offering scenic viewpoints of the ocean, nearby islands, and the coastal mountains. The area is particularly beautiful at sunrise and sunset, when the light reflects off the water and the sky glows with colour. Benches and picnic areas are available for visitors to rest and enjoy the views.
