Prince George

Prince George – The Capital of Northern BC

Set at the junction of the Fraser and Nechako Rivers, Prince George is known as the “Capital of Northern British Columbia.” It is the largest city in the north and serves as a gateway to the province’s forests, lakes, and outdoor adventures.

A great place to begin exploring is Forests for the World, a vast park with scenic trails, viewpoints, and Shane Lake — ideal for walking, picnicking, and spotting local wildlife. For a journey into the area’s industrial heritage, the Central BC Railway & Forestry Museum displays locomotives, logging equipment, and stories from Prince George’s past.

Families will enjoy The Exploration Place Museum & Science Centre, located in Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park, which combines interactive exhibits with regional history. Just outside the city, the Ancient Forest / Chun T’oh Whudujut Provincial Park is a remarkable inland rainforest where visitors can walk among thousand-year-old cedar trees along a well-built boardwalk.

To relax after sightseeing, Northern Lights Estate Winery offers fruit wine tastings overlooking the river — a perfect spot to enjoy the northern landscape.
