A Beacon Above the Iceberg Coast
Standing majestically atop the cliffs of Crow Head, near Twillingate, the Long Point Lighthouse is one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s most striking coastal landmarks. Built in 1876, it continues to guide mariners navigating the treacherous North Atlantic waters and remains a proud symbol of the province’s maritime heritage.
The lighthouse offers breathtaking panoramic views of Notre Dame Bay — where visitors can spot icebergs, whales, and seabirds drifting through the shimmering blue waters. During spring and summer, it’s one of the best vantage points in the world to witness icebergs up close as they glide along Iceberg Alley.
Surrounding the lighthouse are scenic walking trails and viewing platforms perfect for photography, nature observation, or simply enjoying the crisp ocean breeze. The site is easily accessible by road and features interpretive panels that tell stories of Twillingate’s seafaring past.
Whether you visit at sunrise, midday, or sunset, Long Point Lighthouse captures the essence of coastal Newfoundland — where rugged beauty meets timeless tradition.
Best Time to Visit: May–July for iceberg viewing; June–September for whale watching. Arrive early in the morning or close to sunset for the most stunning light and best chance to see whales or icebergs against the horizon.
