Kinsmen Park

619 25 St E, Saskatoon, SK S7K 3H5, Canada

Kinsmen Park is a historic and vibrant 60-acre green space located along the South Saskatchewan River in central Saskatoon. Established in 1903 as “City Park,” it quickly became a gathering place for community fairs, horse racing, and family events. In 1947, after extensive improvements funded by the Saskatoon Kinsmen Club, it was renamed Kinsmen Park in recognition of their contributions.

Today, the park blends rich heritage with modern family fun. Its centerpiece is Nutrien Playland, opened in 2015 as part of a master plan to renew the park. With a Ferris wheel, miniature train, historic carousel, and a creative playscape featuring sand, water, zip lines, and forest-style fountains, it turned the park into a joyful urban hub. The train ride echoes the old horse-race track design, weaving through the park and celebrating prairie heritage.

Families love the free-play areas where kids splash in spray pads, climb on logs, or explore water tables and double cable rides. Rides require tickets, but playgrounds are free, making it simple for all to enjoy . The park is fully wheelchair accessible – the train and carousel include ramps and accommodations — and has plenty of picnic shelters, tables, washrooms, and trees for shade and relaxation.

Kinsmen Park also hosts cultural and community events, such as jazz festivals, Shakespeare performances, and Canada Day celebrations. Visitors highlight its welcoming atmosphere, lush lawns, paved walking paths, and proximity to attractions like the Mendel Art Gallery, Civic Conservatory, and Children’s Discovery Museum.

In summary, Kinsmen Park blends historical charm with a lively, family-friendly environment. Whether you’re enjoying a ride on the Ferris wheel, cooling off in the spray park, or simply strolling along the scenic riverbank, this iconic Saskatoon park provides lasting memories for all ages.
