Dawson City

The heart of the Klondike Gold Rush.

Dawson City is a small but famous town located in the Yukon Territory in northwestern Canada. It is known for its rich history, especially during the Klondike Gold Rush in the late 1800s. Thousands of people came to Dawson City in search of gold, and the town quickly grew. Today, it remains a symbol of that exciting period in Canadian history.

The town is located at the meeting point of the Klondike and Yukon Rivers. Many old buildings from the Gold Rush era have been preserved, giving Dawson City a unique and historic charm. Walking through the town feels like stepping back in time. Parks Canada helps protect many of these historic sites.

Tourism is a major part of Dawson City's economy. Visitors come to explore places like the Dawson City Museum, the SS Keno paddle wheeler, and the restored buildings of the gold rush. The town also offers gold panning experiences, river tours, and hiking trails.

In summer, the town experiences long daylight hours, sometimes known as the midnight sun. In winter, it gets very cold, but visitors can enjoy views of the Northern Lights.
