World-class waterfront tourism destination

The 1000 Islands Region is an international tourism destination, encompassing communities on both sides of the US and Canada border along the St. Lawrence River and the eastern shores of Lake Ontario. The Thousand Islands is an impressive archipelagos of small islands that can be visited by boat tours. Each island is unique in size and character. Some islands are large with houses, cottages, and even castles, while others are tiny and covered with trees. The most famous island is Heart Island, home to the historic Boldt Castle, which was built in the early 1900s. The castle attracts many tourists every year and is a symbol of love and devotion.

The 1000 Islands is a beautiful region located along the border of Ontario, Canada, and New York, USA. It is made up of more than 1,800 islands scattered across the St. Lawrence River. This area is known for its natural beauty, rich history, and peaceful environment, making it a popular destination for visitors from all over the world.

The region extends from Kingson to Cornwall on the Canadian side, and from Oswego to Massena on the US side, reaching inland to the foothills of the Adirondack mountains to embrace the communities that are west and north of the Adirondack Park, and the four NY Counties of Oswego, Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence.

Visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities in the 1000 Islands region. Boating, fishing, kayaking, and swimming are common in the summer months. There are also scenic cruises that take people around the islands and offer stunning views of the river and wildlife. The area is great for bird watching and nature walks as well.

In addition to nature, the 1000 Islands area has museums, lighthouses, and historic sites. The Thousand Islands National Park, one of Canada’s oldest national parks, offers campgrounds and trails for those who want to explore the region more closely.
