Confluence Historic Site & Parkland - Where Calgary’s History Meets Nature
Confluence Historic Site & Parkland, located in Calgary, Alberta, is a special place where history, culture, and nature come together. Found at the meeting point of the Bow and Elbow Rivers, this site has been an important gathering place for thousands of years. It is one of the oldest known meeting spots in the region, used by Indigenous peoples long before the city of Calgary was founded.
This site is also home to Fort Calgary, where the North West Mounted Police (now the RCMP) first built their outpost in 1875. The historic site helps visitors understand the early days of Calgary and the people who shaped it. The area includes interpretive signs, restored buildings, and walking trails that share stories from the past, including the contributions of First Nations, Métis, and early settlers.
Confluence Historic Site & Parkland is more than just a historical location – it is also a beautiful green space where people can relax and connect with nature. The park offers wide open spaces, riverside paths, and peaceful views of downtown Calgary. It's a great spot for walking, biking, or simply enjoying the outdoors.
Visitors can explore the landscaped parkland, enjoy public art installations, and attend seasonal events that celebrate Calgary’s heritage and diversity. Educational programs, guided tours, and community gatherings are often held at the site, making it a lively and meaningful part of the city.
